The majority of the Haitian people are distrustful of the first round of official election results, after news of widespread fraud and irregularities have surfaced.
Already, hundreds of thousands of Haitian people have taken to the streets to demand the creation of an independent commission to openly verify the October 2015 ballots.
As a world leader, the United States has both the power and the responsibility to advance the cause of democratic self-determination everywhere, especially in Haiti, its poorest neighbor.
Therefore, we demand that President Obama issue a public statement supporting Haitian protesters and their call for the establishment of an independent commission that will ensure a fair and transparent election.
