Julian Assange is the founder and editor-in-chief of Wikileaks. He and his organization are demonized in the US, mostly because of a large document dump that included several items that embarrassed the US government. Throughout that process, Assange operated with journalistic integrity, vetting information and working with reputable news organizations to release the acquired information in a responsible manner. He is now facing a potential threat of being extradited to the US (if sent back to Sweden to face accusations there) and potential indictment under the Espionage Act. The Obama Administration should publicly state that they recognize Assange as a journalist, admit that he's broken no US laws, and pledge not to pursue extradition and prosecution.
