Javan Rhino Intervention

Created by E.B. on July 17, 2016

The Javan Rhinoceros is one of the most endangered species on the planet. Less than 60 individuals exist in the Ujung Kulon National Park in Java, Indonesia. The species is in danger from low genetic diversity, natural disasters such as typhoons and tidal waves, disease, and poaching. I propose a drastic and risky but possibly needed intervention. In the past, critically endangered species have been taken out of the wild completely to be housed and bred in captivity. The California Condor and several species of Oryx have managed to recover from similarly small populations before. With a suitable, massive facility, its possible that they could be saved in a similar fashion. This is to share the idea with Congress, to rehabilitate some of the species to increase their numbers.
