In 1776, the greatest nation on earth was declared. However, far too often, we forget our nation's heritage: Once, we were a part of the British Empire. Today, that empire no longer exists, but what does is an organisation dedicated to the betterment of society that is based on these old realms. By joining (or applying to do so), the United States would be able to develop even further ties with nations who share our cultural heritage. By joining the Commonwealth, the United States will give up no sovereignty yet gain so very much from our new ties.
