Out of 178 nations across the globe, the US is 1 of 3 nations that do not offer paid maternity leave benefits. Because American women are offered 12 weeks of UNPAID maternity leave through the Family Medical Leave Act, some are forced to choose between staying home to care for their newborn child and paying their bills. Far too many two income families and/or single moms cannot afford to stay home for 2 weeks let alone 12 weeks without that paycheck. Some moms have no choice but to go back into the workforce before they are ready to leave their baby and before their baby is ready to be separated from them. To top it off, these mothers ends up spending a good percentage of their income paying someone else to take care of their children! It's time to get on board with the rest of the world!
