On July 4th, 1776 the United States successfully gained independence from the British. However, on that day slaves did not gain any independence, nor freedom. The purpose of this petition is to pay respect to slaves (who continued to build America and acknowledge them for their hard work to this country for 2 yrs after the proclamation was signed), General Granger, and to his troops for carrying out the orders of President Abraham Lincoln by assuring that slaves were freed from the control of their owners. Juneteenth is a recognized and observed holiday in most of the 50 states, lets make it 100% and celebrate it with a weekday off to symbolize a day of zero work as for the slaves were freed.
