The removal of the oxygen producing, slow-growth Boreal Forest (featured in Planet Earth's Seasonal Forest segment) means that the tar sand oil production is a double-whammy to our atmosphere. Adding CO2 AND destoying the method of removal the CO2 from the atmosphere by deforestation. Pipelines leak and spoiled freshwater (groundwater) can be permanent. The jobs the pipeline might provide Americans are jobs those same people could have doing any number of things like, building high speed railroads, installing solar panels and wind turbines. Americans want to go in a different direction. Think of the technological changes we have seen in the last 50 years, why are we still BURNING fossil fuels. What are we, cavemen?
