On August 13, 2016, the Imam of Al-Furqan Jame Masjid and another pious, well-respected Muslim male were killed in broad daylight. The incident occurred on the intersection of 79th Street and Liberty Avenue in Ozone Park, NY. The two males were walking home after praying Zuhr, the afternoon prayer. Last seen wearing traditional Islamic garb, the innocent men were shot at point blank range. Surveillance video shows a male wearing a dark-colored shirt and shorts walking closely behind the two Muslims. He shot approximately 5 times, and was seen immediately fleeing the scene in the opposite direction. This is one example of hate crimes against Muslims since San Bernardino attacks. Muslim hate crimes have since tripled and are becoming a scary living situation for Muslims in America.
