As research in the education of students exposed to multiple languages indicates, there is widely believed to be a period of time when children are most capable of learning more than one language. In today's global world system, efficiency in multiple languages provides an avenue for understanding and communication, and as such, can only help perpetuate greater compassion and empathy for those with different cultural heritages than the English-speaking majority.
Since many Spanish-speaking people inhabit America, it would be beneficial to formally recognize the versatility afforded those able to communicate in multiple languages. Since Spanish is the second most spoken language in the U.S., children would most likely choose to learn Spanish, further dismantling communicative barriers.
