I was delighted to learn that Harriet Tubman would replace Andrew Jackson on the face of the $20 bill. She deserves this honor for her well known role as an abolitionist and as a scout and spy who helped the Union win the Civil War.
I was dismayed to learn that President Jackson will still remain on the bill, although moving from the front to the back. Andrew Jackson was a racist bigot who owned slaves and persecuted Native Americans. He should have been impeached for defying the Supreme Court order to keep the Cherokee Nation on their ancestral lands. His defiance led to the infamous "Trail of Tears" which relocated the Cherokees to Oklahoma. Many of the natives died along the way.
The treasury department needs to be urged to entirely remove Jackson's image from our currency.
