This petition calls on the Federal Government to pass a law that will require School districts across the country to release kids early or cancel public schools in case of a Weather Emergency. The requirements would be a HIGH risk of Severe Weather or a PDS Tornado Watch with at least 95% confidence in severe weather risk.
What would this law do to protect students/teachers?
This law would protect students and teachers from violent long track tornadoes. Tornadoes are very dangerous, and there have been instances were kids have been killed because schools were in session during a tornado outbreak. This law would be made to protect children and teachers from being killed in schools. Hundreds of businesses let their workers go home in tornado outbreaks for safety, why not the kids too?
