The financial services industry is pushing to change how the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) is funded in order to significantly weaken it or to eventually eliminate it entirely.
"The design of the CFPB's funding was very deliberate--and part of a political compromise with Republicans led by Senator Corker. A major concern when designing the CFPB was that if it had to rely on appropriations, the financial services lobby would make repeated pushes to starve the agency into ineffectiveness." Ask the White House to keep the CFPB's funding independent and protect it from undue influence.
