The Obama Administration should intervene and, by threatening to withhold federal funding to Auburn University, make clear that U.S. public educational institutions are primarily for education, not winning football games. Auburn University is, first and foremost, a prestigious academic institution. Its football program is an extracurricular activity whereby students are allowed to participate as athletes and represent Auburn University. Auburn should not fire Head Football Coach Gene Chizik just because he had a few bad games. Keep Gene Chizik! He has established a program of character and integrity at Auburn, where student-athletes learn to become men and only occasionally commit felonies. If anything, Gene Chizik should get a raise. Mr. President: don't let "win at all costs" prevail.
