Guns have no place on college campuses. Recent proposed state legislation such as in Indiana would prohibit a state supported college or university from any restriction or regulation of firearms or ammunition. Often, as is the case in Indiana, state legislators can pass such legislation endangering faculty and students, while their own state supported statehouse bans firearms.
Given recent school shootings, any state legislation that needlessly and recklessly puts the lives of students and faculty at immediate risk impinges upon the rights of those who wish to work and learn in an environment other than that of the Wild West. Furthermore, such legislation will have a chilling effect upon the rights of those wishing to pursue free and open inquiry without the threat of guns.
