On January 14, 2014, the DC District Court ruled that the FCC has no official capacity to enforce Network Neutrality. Now, Internet Service Providers have the ability to degrade the Internet as it sees fit for its own profit.
Internet (or Net) Neutrality is a principle that Internet Service Providers (i.e. Verizon, Xfinity, AT&T) should treat all data on the Internet equally and not discriminate or charge differently by site, content, etc.
This neutrality is imperative as it promotes a fair and reliable experience on the Internet. Most Americans have a limited choice of whom they can use to access the Internet and many are locked into a contract with a high Early Termination Fee. Net Neutrality has a place in preserving the Internet in a limited competitive market.
