Did you know only 1/3rd of schools in Oklahoma have a storm shelter? This subject is not about Oklahoma alone, but about all that are impacted by tornadoes. Schools always do their best to protect their students, but if they don't have a basement, or shelter, they tend to put the students in hallways. This may be the safest option they have, but this actually ends up working against them if the tornado hits. Why? The hallways will act as a wind tunnel depending upon wind direction, it could end up pushing the students and teachers out of the school and into the tornado, and it's debris field. The safest option for students and teachers in the event of a tornado is to either have #1 a basement, or #2 a tornado shelter to protect students and faculty.
