Due to budget cuts the military may have to downgrade the military funeral honors for a retiree. Currently a retired member of the Armed Forces recieves pallbearers, a flag-fold, a firing team, the playing of taps, and a presentation of the flag to the next of Kin. The proposed downgrade to a 2 person detail, commonly used for veterans who did NOT retire from the Armed Forces, will consist of the flag-fold, playing of taps, and presention of the flag.
Retirees of the military deserve more than the bare minimum for their service to their country. As a nation we should make it manditory that they receive the traditional firing team and pallbearers for their final military funeral honors.
