KEEP the phrase "UNDER GOD" in our Pledge of Allegiance.
The phrase "UNDER GOD" does not specifically promote any particular religion. "God" is many things to many people and the removal of the phrase would be an offense to many. To borrow a statement I believe to have been written by Rev. M. R. Watkinson, Minister of the Gospel from Ridleyville, Pennsylvania, to then Secretary of the Treasury Salmon P. Chase in November of the year 1861, the inclusion of such statement at least " would relieve us from the ignominy of heathenism."
