Religion is a major part of human history, and has been that way for thousands of years. It cannot be removed from society, not should it be.
It does not, however, have any place in science classes, as it is not a science in any way, shape, or form. Beliefs such as Young Earth Creationism and the Resurrection are not backed by any empirical evidence, as science is.
This does not mean that religion should be removed from the classroom altogether. As an integral part of mankind, it should be limited to being taught in history and religious education classes.
If we allow our children to grow up in a society where baseless claims are given as much credence as those supported by facts and evidence, believing them to be as plausible as the other, then our society will not advance much further.
