Social Security and Medicare are paid by payroll taxes, and are not "entitlements". They are insurance programs paid for by workers and employers through payroll taxes.
Any "deal" brokered with Republicans over the "Fiscal Cliff" should NOT include either Social Security or Medicare cuts of any kind. The Republicans will do anything to kill both these programs- they've been trying since their inception.
