Steny Hoyer stated these essential safety net programs are part of a White House plan that offers “cuts to programs... slows the growth of government benefits, especially Social Security.”
The chained CPI proposal is widely unpopular across the political spectrum. 56% of Republicans, 67% of Democrats and 46% of independents, thought the proposal was a bad idea. 77% of Americans age 65+ oppose it.
It's well-known that the American people and most grassroots orgs overwhelmingly oppose cuts to Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid benefits, and have made clear they would see any fiscal plan cutting such benefits as a betrayal to working and middle class families - be it via chained CPI, increased Medicare age, or any other form.
