Keep the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) a Federal Government Agency

Created by M.H. on April 10, 2013

The Tennessee Valley Authority was created as a Federal Agency in 1933 to control the Tennessee River and provide electricity to the people of the TN Valley. This was something that private companies were unable or unwilling to do. It took the Federal government to step in for the benefit of The People. Since that time, TVA has not only provided cheap electricity, but has maintained the Tennessee River and its lands for the public. For this service it receives no Federal funding. Zero. All TVA expenditure is funded by its electricity sales and TVA electricity rates are amongst the lowest in the country. The 2013 Federal Budget now proposes to divest TVA, break it up and sell it off to private companies whose goal is not public service but shareholder profit. Petition against this iniquity!
