Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, and other fellow politicians think the NFL team, Washington Redskins, is a racist and derogatory name and that it should be changed. Little do they know about the history of the Redskins, and how current Native Americans feel.
A 2014 poll shows that 83% of Americans believe they should keep the name. Furthermore, another poll shows that 90% of Native Americans do not think the name is offensive.
The most recent political attempt to change the name occurred when the US Patent and Trademark office canceled the Redskins trademark because the name is "disparaging to Native Americans."
The name was changed to Redskins in 1932 to pay tribute to coach "Lone Star" Dietz, an American Sioux. Owner Dan Snyder has strongly defended his stance along with Roger Goodell.
