We petition the White House to get serious about reducing the unsustainable deficit by making much needed reforms to Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. As Senator Obama noted in 2006 when voting against the debt ceiling increase, "Increasing America's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that 'the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership."
In less than a decade, the costs of Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, and interest on the debt will surpass 100% of tax revenues. The Medicare eligibility age needs to be increased to at least 67 to ensure that we don't bankrupt our country and future generations.
