America was founded on Biblical principles by people who revered Almighty God. In 1781, Thomas Jefferson stated: "God who gave us life gave us liberty."
Alexander Hamilton stated: "Let an association be formed to be denominated 'The Christian Constitutional Society,' its object to be first: The support of the Christian religion. Second: The support of the United States...”
The words “In God We Trust” were first used during the Civil War in 1864 and were added to all coins by 1938. In 1955, Congress passed a law to add “In God We Trust” to all currency and in 1957, the one dollar bill became the first paper currency to display those words.
In 1953, Rep. Rabaut [MI (D)] introduced a bill to add “under God” to the Pledge of Allegiance and it was passed in 1954. These words need to stay.
