United States citizens with families are being torn apart because of how harsh, black and white the laws are for immigrants. Legal permanent residents should not have to face deportation after they serve their time and pay their dues. They made the effort to get their proper documents to be here, and if they work and pay taxes they are just like citizens. America started out as the melting pot and more than 80% of us can trace our heritage to immigrants ourselves. Too many good families are now going through traumatic situations because of things from the past. I propose that if an immigrant has his proper paper work, pays taxes, and has proof of marriage with proof of offspring, that the person be granted citizenship. Everyone makes mistakes and no one is perfect.
