Kidney transplants put under-65 crowd in fix.

Created by D.C. on September 30, 2011

My 42 yr old daughter just received a kidney/pancreas transplant. Medicare will finance a maximum of three yrs for anti-rejection drugs Then it's back to dialysis. Medicare will pay for dialysis and another transplant. Treatment drugs have an annual cost of $19K. Dialysis, more than $77K. Current cost of new transplant, $110K. It doesn't compute. The cost to continue drug treatment is less to the government and ultimately, to the taxpayer. For transplant recipients 65 yrs & over, Medicare pays for drug treatment for life. Why discriminate against those who have more to give to society in their younger years?
