Since 1952 over 50% of the people of Puerto Rico has wish to maintain the actual Commonwealth status. Statehood has never grown from 46% since 1992, despise multiple efforts to dismember the economy of the Commonwealth, in order to force (in foul play) the election of the statehood to Puerto Rico.
Independance is out of discussion.
The statehood party has never respected the ELA (actual commonwealth), and does the maximum effort to strangle the economy (936 elimination, etc.), and created an illusion plesbisite on November 6, 2012, in order to create a false majority, by unifying forces with the left-independance movement. Also did not offer the actual status in a vis a vis competition (in the second question).
