As a mother and grandmother of girls, I am concerned about the horrible events in California May 23, 2014, and the lack of interest in the media and law enforcement to see this for what it was: a hate crime. Violence against women, attacking any individual as an object, a focus of hate, is a hate crime. While I support any efforts toward better mental health reform, I think it's important to call into question this person's motive and how his viewpoint, while extreme, is still considered normalized in our society. It's time our laws reflect the nature of the crime.
