Label all storm drain inlets

Created by L.O. on February 17, 2013

Storm drain marking involves labeling storm drain inlets with plaques, or painted messages warning citizens not to dump pollutants into the drain. The messages are to remind people that the storm drains connect to local waterbodies and that dumping will pollute those waters. Some storm drain markers specify which waterbody the inlet drains to.

While this is especially important in areas with sensitive waters or where trash, nutrients, or BOD levels have been identified as high priority pollutants, these signs will raise awareness and benefit the environment no matter the water quality. This effort will help to discourage littering, excess fertilizer use, dumping, and other practices that contribute to stormwater pollution.
