Many states are going to a college degree requirement for an individual to obtain a professional surveying license within that state. Most individuals in their current positions as a professional land surveyor did not have this requirement when they became licensed in their states. How can anyone learn professional land surveying in a class room, when most of the work is done outside? I keep seeing many unqualified individuals coming into this profession breaking the state laws and totally ignoring the principles of land surveying. The best place to learn how to properly survey is through on the job training, working in the elements, and learning what to look for to establish the boundary, and physically using the survey equipment and understanding what is being done.
