On October 20, 2014, Laquan McDonald was fatally shot by Chicago police officer Jason van Dyke. Fortunately, police cruiser dashboard footage captured the shooting, which has led to van Dyke being charged with murder. Along with the use of excessive force, local media has reported that the Chicago police force deleted CCTV of the incident from a local business. Despite the fatal incident occurring in October 2014, the dashcam video was not released until November of this year (13 months later). Many have questioned whether or not the withholding of the video was because Mayor Rahm Emmanuel was up for reelection in April 2015. With this in mind, the Department of Justice should not only investigate the Chicago Police force but Mayor Emmanuel as well to discover why the video was withheld.
