The calculations that determine if/what the COLA will be certainly can't include food, utilities, rents and healthcare costs; THESE are the expenses affecting people on Social Security. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that all of these expenses are rising. Some foods have risen 25%-75% in the last 18 months, utility companies continue to raise rates, [my] rent has increased $275 in over the last four years, and pharmaceuticals are raising the price on drugs not covered by insurance (recently a vial of Vitamin B-12 has gone from $22 to $128). A key determinant is the falling cost of gasoline? We don't drive to work and are making choices between eating, obtaining our drugs or paying our rent! The calculations are flawed, don't reflect reality and need to be rewritten.
