We the people ask the federal government to Call on Congress to act on an issue:

To Launch a Full Public Health Study on the Use of Guns and Gun Violence in America

Created by S.T. on June 13, 2016

The Centers for Disease Control and the National Institute of Health are currently prevented from conducting public health studies on the prevalence of gun violence in the United States because of the existence of the Dickey Amendment of 1996. This petition is to demand that the members of Congress remove the Dickey Amendment from spending bills, allocate an appropriate amount of funds to the CDC to conduct a full public health study on gun violence, and launch said study. When so many people die from any other issue, be it on the street or in the home, we consider that issue to be detrimental to our health as a society and begin research on it to determine the facts and data needed to make a positive change. This same tactic needs to be applied to gun violence and carried out accordingly.
