While there have been federally funded studies looking at costs and outcomes in Veterans Administration vs Private Sector hospitals, in light of newer reports of poorer quality of care and increased mortality and morbidity of veterans we request that the government hire, not fund, an independent firm that would conduct outcomes research focused on quality. Such studies should be conducted by a reputable firm and be peer reviewed by healthcare professionals from all disciplines from a private sector to ensure that methods, standards and outcomes are free of any bias and consistent with demands of the professions. We demand that such an inquiry be conducted on humanitarian grounds to ensure that our veterans receive better, not same, care than is available in the private sector to citizens.
