Launch a Manhattan-esque project to combat the staggering suicide numbers among veterans and active military.

Created by J.M. on January 24, 2013

After more than a decade of war, the rate at which veterans and active duty members of our military are committing suicide is staggeringly high. With an average of 18 veterans killing themselves everyday, and more active duty personnel dying by their own hand than in combat, something more needs to be done to. A serious attempt must be made to lower these numbers, and clearly the status quo is failing. While medication might be part of the answer for some, it acts as a band-aid, with side effects often worsening the problem. We call on the President to gather our nations greatest minds to devise and enact a plan immediately that will place the focus on healing rather than medicating, not relying solely on western medicine. The last month in service should be set aside to begin this process
