The President campaigned on sweeping defenses of civil liberties, such as the repeal of the PATRIOT Act. Millions of people believed him and sent him to Washington to do just that. He was re-elected 4 years later on a similar message.
A few months into his second term, it is revealed that President Obama has not only defaulted on their promises to halt government surveillance. They have expanded it. With the revelation of such actions all over the media, millions were disappointed, even frightened, by the President's breach of leadership.
Mr. President, now is the time to lead on civil liberties.
