lead the country in the movement to change Columbus Day to something that does not celebrate a slave trader.

Created by G.R. on October 12, 2015

The real history of Christopher Columbus involves enslaving the people he encountered, forcing them to convert from their religion to Christianity, and bringing new diseases that ravaged the indigenous people.

He forced the indigenous people into labor and sent thousands by boat back to Spain to be sold into slavery. Many died on each trip.

Columbus became a governor and viceroy over the area, and his rule was brutal. This is a man who should not be celebrated.
