Our civilian population doesn't need assault weapons for self-defense, target shooting and hunting. These weapons and high-capacity ammunition clips should be banned from being purchased, sold, carried by civilians, period.
A background check and mental health evaluation should also be mandatory for any purchase of handguns and for all current registered owners and their family members.
