"We the people of the United States" in the Preamble to the Constitution refers to "people" not corporations. Rulings of the Supreme Court over time have endowed corporations with the rights of people and in so doing have weakened democracy of the people. The Supreme Court rulings have given corporations the right of uncontrolled and unaccounted spending in support of free speech to promote their political agenda. Their ability to influence elections and policy is far greater than that of individuals. This ruling unfairly places corporations in control of the U.S. government, of Congress, and of our political system at the federal, state and local level. Apparently the only way to rectify this injustice is via the Constitutional Admendment route. This petition is to urge action now.
