Our campaign finance system is the single most important factor in whether our Democracy stands or falls.
Because of the Citizens United decision, record amounts of unrestricted and secret monies will be funneled to candidates in 2012. Public officials are then beholden only to their funders. The fact that voters have become invisible to our "public servants" makes the act of voting a farce.
President Clinton said recently that congressmen spend 1/2 their time fundraising. This makes them tired/cranky, unable to get to know their colleagues, or do their work.
Instead of raising $1 billion, President Obama should be leading the way in creating true campaign finance reform: Public Funding of Elections.
Ask President Obama to propose Public Funding of Elections legislation.
