There is pressure for the United States to officially abandon the Imperial system in favor of the metric system. Despite the tremendous benefits, this change would not be without hardship, taking generations to cement itself in the minds and hearts of the people. As long as Americans are up to the task, let us also abandon the base ten (decimal) counting system in favor of a base eight (octal) system. Historically, the decimal system arose because someone counted their thumbs--an arbitrary and unfortunate decision with no more merit than twelve inches to a foot. In this digital age, an octal system would simplify math, science, and engineering, leading the United States to a new age of economic prosperity. Retroactively, this should only take 32,768 signatures to be considered.
