We, the undersigned, urge the Obama administration to stay true to the spirit of the Second Amendment and leave all potential firearms control legislation to individual states. The Second Amendment is tied innately to the natural right of self-defense. The defense both of one's self and of the polity at large in which one resides has always been the purview of the states. Any new Federal legislation will undoubtedly be challenged immediately against the precedent of the recent Supreme Court cases on the Second Amendment and we strongly urge the Obama administration to spare the country the toil of a divisive Court battle in favor of leaving what the President termed "common sense legislation" to the constituents of the individual states.
