Over 54 years ago, Congress imposed restrictions on trade and travel to the island nation of Cuba. (Helms-Burton Act and several others) This was done for a variety of reasons, some sound and others....political grand standing. Citizens from Canada and other European nations are free to travel to Cuba via air and boat. Cuba has been a member of the World Trade Organization since 1995. We currently trade with nations which have shown more egregious human rights violations, yet we are somehow unwilling to lift an ineffective embargo to an island 90 miles off the coast of Florida.
It is time to move forward and see if we can find better solutions to this stalemate between the USA and Cuba.
