2C-X substituted phenethylamines are a new generation of psychedelics that do not cause cognitive impairment like other types of psychedelic drugs including but not limited to: psilocybin mushrooms, mescaline, LSD, ketamine, PCP, and marijuana.
This new generation of drugs has the opposite effect on serotonergic "5-HT2A" subtype than previous naturally existing or synthesized compounds, being partial antagonists or blockers of this subtype, where older drugs have had the opposite effect.
Alternately, their partial agonist affinity is at the "5-HT2C" subtype. 25i-NBOMe may have potential for harm as a unique full agonist at this subtype.
