I believe the legalization, and taxing of marijuana can help improve current economic status, and ultimately change the future of our country. In 2010, our law enforcement agencies made 13 million arrests, out of that, 853,839 were strictly marijuana related. The average jail time for someone in trouble for possession is 3-5 years, lets say that each of the people that were arrested are going to serve 2 years, to account for people who aren't convicted. Cost per year for an inmate is around $25,000, costing us $50,000 for just 1 of those 853,839 arrests. That money can go to funding cancer research, or education. Government officials continually warn that this plant is dangerous, when every 1 in 5 deaths each year in America is related to just smoking cigarettes, and not one from marijuana
