Legalizing cannabis will reduce the distribution of cannabis through illegal markets. This in turn will bring in tax revenue, lower public risks of cannabis contamination, create new jobs, and will lower crime rates. This will also improve the nation economically because there are negative social costs associated with having criminal records on file because this prevents cannabis users from receiving federal financial aid, certain jobs, loans, and other associated benefits. I personally request that cannabis be removed from the Controlled Substances list because cannabis has been proven to have medical benefits. Congress could direct the HHS and/or the Attorney General to reevaluate marijuana and its position within the schedules of controlled substances.
