Legalize Cannabis for recreational use in the United States and regulate the private market over its sale.

Marijuana laws are outdated and ineffective, and a massive, particularly violent underground market sees the loss of billions of dollars in potential tax revenue each year. By legalizing the possession and distribution of marijuana, the government will dissolve the influence of violent drug cartels, have authority to regulate the purity and potency of marijuana, and collect tax revenue that would otherwise be lost to black markets. In addition, the government could direct tax funds raised towards substance abuse programs and educational programs in schools.
