Legalize captive bred specimens of the Asian arowanas ( Scleropages species) in the United States.

Asian arowanas ( Scleropages cf. aureus) are unjustly banned aquarium fish in the U.S. Under the endangered species act, the Asian arowana was completely banned for sale and purchase in the U.S. At the time, this was the best move. However, new regulations in other parts of the world have shown that these fish need not be so heavily regulated. In Canada and many asian countries CITES licensed breeders may sell asian arowana of at least second generation to hobbyists. The fish are fitted with PIT microchips to ensure their authenticity. If the U.S. could adopt similar regulations, then aquarists and breeders could finally own these much coveted fish. I propose that the arowana are legalized in the U.S. in states that already allow their taxonomic relatives, under similar laws.
