The Legalization of gay marriage on the federal level allows for Americans to have civil liberties that should have been granted originally in the Constitution of the United State of America. This would also increase the approval rating of President Obama among the LGBT community and set a standard across all parties to support marriage equality.
This would remove state amendments that define marriage as a union only between one man and one woman; thus allowing gays and lesbians to marry.
Support for LGBT people in the US has grown tremendously in past years, and is now about 55% according to recent public surveys. Being that this is accurate, while following the rules for a simple majority, this could pass in both House and Senate.
